Mountain Elopement by Crystal Waters

High meltwater lakes hold a colour photos struggle to believe — glassy turquoise over pale stone, mountains standing on their own reflection. This day belonged to that stillness, the pair of them small against all that light.

We timed it for calm water and soft sun, when the surface goes to mirror. Bring good shoes and a sense of wonder; the lake supplies the rest.

There is a moment, when the wind drops and the surface goes to glass, where the mountains stand twice — once against the sky and once in the water — and the two of them seem to float between. We wait for it patiently; it never lasts long, and it is always worth the wait.
