Lago di Braies Elopement

Lago di Braies — emerald water, a wooden boathouse, and the Dolomites rising straight out of the lake.

They call it the pearl of the Dolomites: a mirror of green water, the old boathouse and its wooden rowboats, the Croda del Becco standing guard at the far end. It is one of the most photographed places in the Alps — and, at dawn, one of the most peaceful.

To have it quiet you go early, before the boats and the buses. We plan around first light, when the water is still and the colour is at its deepest.

Braies is the turquoise icon everyone knows — and the trick is timing. Before nine in the morning or after four in the afternoon the water goes still, the peaks turn pink and the famous shoreline empties out, so the most photographed lake in the Dolomites becomes, for an hour, almost yours alone.

A few practical notes make Braies work: from July to mid-September the road to the lake is limited to 09:00–16:00 with an advance booking, the historic rowboats run seasonally and can be booked from February, and since 2026 drones are strictly banned. We handle all of it — you just arrive to still water and pink peaks.
